It does depend on what you mean by the word 'vivarium', but most of us understand this to be a glass, or glass and wood 'tank'. Here's a very good article on why vivariums are not good indoor homes for tortoises. http://www.tortoisetrust.org/articles/vivarium.htm
Vivariums are often recommended for tortoises by pet shops, sometimes out of ignorance, but often because they are profitable items of equipment for the shop to sell. Most of us use 'tortoise tables', which are generous with floor space and not enclosed, so that a good variation in temperatures can be achieved from one end of the 'table' to the other (think of a bookshelf on its back, with the shelves taken out, and that's pretty much what it is -- a shallow box with sides just high enough so that the tortoise can't climb out).
If you do have a vivarium there are ways to modify it, but it's probably best to return it and get a refund if you can, and start over. We can give you lots of ideas on how to construct or where to buy a tortoise table, as many of us have gone through the same process before we got it right.
