hi i currently have two male Hermann's tortoises and am currently running the 100w Arcadia D3 mercury vapour bulb, i am looking at upgrading it to the 160w variant does any one have an experience of using this bulb in regards to rough temperatures it achieves at which height etc as its an extra 60w to what i am already running i didn't want to upgrade and find out its not really suitable for my setup i understand that obviously setups vary etc its just so i can get a rough idea of the extra power before making the costly purchase as i will need 2 due to separate indoor housing arrangements for them.

Hi Craig,

I have used the 160w Arcadia for years, and each tort in fact has two each in large shed areas. They give off a good light and I get 33 degrees C at a height of 11" for my little one and 15" for my larger one.

I do have the 12% arcadia strip lighting at the sides too.
Regards,

Ali

Thanks for the information ali i think i will go ahead and purchase them. By the sounds of it it should fit into my current setup with not much adaptation being required. I also run a arcadia T5 12% lamp for both my torts. Its the best lighting system by far im currently in the process of upgrading my T8 tubes for my chameleons to T5 lighting as i was so impressed by the torts T5 lights.

T5's are very good. One side has reflectors, one at present doesn't - but I have been successful previously with homemade reflectors with kitchen foil!

Here's my shed lighting......
