Refrigerator Hibernation DVD now available again

Just had the tracking note from UPS, so we'll also have these back in stock as of tomorrow. Already added to online catalogue on the TT website:

http://www.easycatalog.net/home/tortoise/

This covers exactly how to set up a refrigerator, use thermometers, stabilise temperatures, ensure air circulation, and use 'earth tray' units for juveniles. Should be used in conjunction with relevant articles on the Tortoise Trust website.

first time EVER in over 55 years trying fridge hibernation. :!: :!: Fridge has bn. too small - another on order.
Got kind of 'frosted up' last nt., despite having a thermometer in there, but one near to the back (no ice on him-
another had but is breathing) - taken 3 indoors!
I think I have lost my dear Terry I bought on 30th April 1960             Tried warming in v. shallow water - under lamp. Doesn't appear to breathing! No movement at ALL! Oh, what have I done! Have loved him for so long :!:       HE'S BREATHING :!: :!: :!: watching him - especially his eyes :!:

Terry, tortoise, has 'come to' following warm soaks, sitting under lamp, etc. I have now (I thought I had done this a months ago :?: :!: ) paid & ordered the instruction DVD on Refrigerator Hibernation. Thanks for this. This winter, despite v. cold winds, has turned out, so far, to be exceptionally mild with temperatures in 'double figures' - hence my 1st try in over 55 yrs. of hibernating tortoises in a fridge :!: :o

So glad Terry has woken up now - you must have been frantic. Lets hope the spring continues and we don't revert to winter!

Thanks Clara - well it has got colder 'naturally' at last :!: BUT sad to say Terry isn't looking 'too good' - maybe some kind of frost damage inside him. Little can be done, I expect: fluids, keeping him warm etc. but it's heart-breaking seeing him like this :|

Got the notes printed off about refrigeration, thanks, Andy. Now appears for a start - got correct fridge!

Sadly, tonight I seem to have 'lost' another - cold night (tho' heater in outhouse) but reckon the chilling in the fridge PLUS cold night was just too much!

He was def. breathing & responsive when I brought Terry in! Now - another, Ted, (also v. responsive when I'd checked Terry) not
moving! He CLD. 'pull through' - have to wait & see. As it happens we were all OK during that very cold winter some yrs. ago when temps had gone down to -18C or so :!: Well insulated outhouse with an oil-filled radiator plugged into 'plug thermostat' - had it on 'day & night' that year & all were OK :!: A friend in Yorkshire, who'd had her 2 for over 40 years sadly lost hers, leaving them in unheated outhouse (I believe).

Sadly, climate change is 'here to stay' and seems we can no longer go by averages of seasons - same all over the world  :!: Reckon we all need to 'adapt' to what's been (and is) happening to our planet :!: Your support always much appreciated, Andy & Tortoise Trust.
