Young Male Hermann's (Moulton, Northampton) (Carcas)

This young male Hermann's tortoise was rescued from an owner that no longer wanted to keep him. The person who took him does not have the facilities to keep the tortoise permanently and needs to find a suitable home for him.

The person currently caring for him offered the following:

"He was kept in a vivarium on wood chips and fed on a ‘holistic’ pellet diet for about 4 years with the previous owner. He did receive occasional fresh vegetables and salad (based on the advice of the pet shop that sold him). A UV and basking bulb have been present throughout.

For the two years he has been with us we have:
· Switched the glass front of the vivarium for plywood with large open windows cut out (out of his reach)
· Put him on a mix of sand and soil in place of the wood chips
· Removed the pellets and vegetables from his diet and provided more leafy salads and occasional dandelions in their place.

We are not happy to be keeping him in his modified vivarium, but it is all we have. He has never been hibernated.

We would like him to find a home where his keeper is experienced with his needs (including hibernation, environment and dietary needs).

His certificate states that he is a Hermanns Tortoise (Testudo hermanni) hatched 2010.

A vet has recently confirmed that he is male. And we have measured that his total shell length is approximately 180mm (29/08/16)."

If you would like to offer this lovely tortoise a home, please send a completed application and photos of your indoor housing and secure outdoor tortoise area to Nadine at with "Young Male Hermann's (Moulton, Northampton) (Carcas)" as the subject.
