Help - tortoises eating slate

Postby treacleminer » Mon Aug 17, 2015 12:37 pm

Hi,

My tortoises have fee run of the walled garden. Yesterday I put decorative slate down. They immediatly made for it and wont leave it alone. They pick up slates with their beaks and carry them around. Some are a bit crumbly and they seem to be eating those like cuttlefish. Will they get bored with them or do I need to take them all up again? - they are Hermans 100 to 150 gram yearlings.

Any small pieces I would remove - I had to with my little one as I was worried in case he ingested any . . .I kept all pieces that were far bigger than his head if this helps
Regards,

Ali
