Also coming soon " Buying Tortoise Housing: Your Rights as a Consumer".

A guide to enforcing the Sale of Goods Act 1979 and the Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002.

This includes details of how to make a claim if you are sold housing that is "unfit for purpose" and how to bring a claim via the County Court (or Sheriff's Court in Scotland) if the retailer refuses your demand for a refund.

The mis-selling of housing systems for tortoises is scandalous, and is causing a huge number of casualties (including avoidable deaths) every year. It is time for people who have been misled into making purchases of lethally unfit equipment to fight back. You can do it, and you can win. We'll show you how.

This article is spot-on Andy. Very clearly written and exactly what's needed. I was in a pet shop yesterday trying to say something that would make a difference for a poor Hermanns tort with severe MBD scratching at the glass on its tiny viv. The man there did his best to fob me off - looks like I'll be going back ;)

Ahh... the fob off.

Make sure your local Animal Welfare Officer has a copy if you take up the complaint there.

Will make sure they have a copy Andy. Have also sent it to Partnership for Action Against Wildlife Crime (PAW), part of DEFRA. Hope that's OK.
