MV Bulb question - perhaps for Darren/kreptile?

Postby AlexD » Wed Apr 22, 2009 8:34 pm

I live in Canada and cannot get hold of the bulbs you recommend, so out of these three manufacturers:

which is the better buy (160W), in your opinion?

Thanks!

They're mostly made in Canada, I thought?

Doh! I didn't see them in any of the online stores I usually use, so I just assumed Megarays were UK made

Thanks!

Cheers Darren - will email you now. Just curious though...(thought this might be of interest to others on the list, so I won't save the question for my email!) Why do you advise using the 100W over the 160W that I was thinking of using?

Thanks again,
Alex

Tortoises generally dont need the extra heat the 160w produce, i recommend the 100w/120w is situated at 16" - 18" above your tortoise, if using 160w higher !

Ah, I see. I might well go for the higher wattage and position it higher because our early Spring and late Autumn climate is pretty cold, so the background temp is lower than in the UK, and I don't want to have to hibernate them for too long (they only hatched in Feb(!) 2008), so I will probably need the more powerful lamp.

The guys you emailed contacted me and apparently there'll be a 1-2 month wait, but that's not a problem because our Reptisun 10.0 tube was only purchased in October, so it should be perfectly adequate until they can go outdoors more...

Thanks,
Alex
