Help identify my tortoise please

Postby Guler » Wed Sep 07, 2016 6:42 pm

Hello, I was given a tortoise as a gift. I was told it is 10 months old and it is not suppose to grow very big. No more info. I'd like to find out what spices it is. Where I am, tortoises live in the wild, it is their natural habitat. It is in Azerbaijan's capital city Baku, coast of Caspian Sea. I am almost sure this tortoise is local to here. I measured it 2 days ago, weighs 18g, length about 6 cm, just shell length about 4.5cm. It has 4 claws on front legs and I think it is 3 claws on back legs. I attached few pictures. Please help. Many thanks

The simple answer is Testudo graeca.

The more complex answer is that these are almost certainly an undescribed and presently un-named race/subspecies of Testudo ibera.
